London Cycling

Sunday. With some trepidation, we headed off on our cycles to explore the greener parts of London. First we headed North to Hampstead  Heath, where we climbed to the top of Parliament Hill with its view over the city. We attempted to follow a relatively quiet route and in the process rode through some rather nice residential areas. Next stop was Primrose Hill also with a lovely city view. On to Regents Park and coffee in the Queen Mary's Garden Cafe. Regents Park has many beautiful gardens, water features, islands and birdlife.
Most of Hampstead Heath and Regents Park are off limits to cyclist so we had to do a bit of walking in these areas.
By now our London road confidence was building, so we continued on through Marylebone, riding along Harley Street and Marylebone Road and through Marble Arch to Hyde Park. We crossed the Serpentine to reach the  corner of Hyde Park closest to Buckingham Palace.
From there we were able to ride along Constitution Avenue to the front of Buckingham Palace.
We realised Trafalgar Square was very close so we continued along a pretty regal boulevard, known as The Mall, which was closed to motor traffic for the day. At the end of the Mall  stands the magnificent Admiralty  Arch. If you cycle through this arch and turn left you come to Trafalgar Square and Nelsons column.
We then retraced our steps past the Palace and through Hyde Park and to Regents Park before detouring to cross the pedestrian crossing on Abbey Road, only about 2km from our accommodation.
34km.
